In August 2025, the UP Board of Regents approved the renaming of the National Training Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity, under the National Institutes of Health, to the National Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity (NCBB).
This development marks an important leap on NCBB’s expanded role which covers training, research, policy development, capacity building, and technical advisory services. It solidifies the center’s mandate in advancing biosafety and biosecurity in the Philippines.
The UP Board of Regents also approved the renaming and reorganization of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension.
This milestone affirms UP Manila’s commitment in strengthening its role on integrating research with extension programs, capability-building initiatives, and community engagement — ensuring that the University’s research outputs bring greater impact to society.
